What to expect in a treatment session
More treatment time, less prodding
My entire treatment process is aimed at taking a person who is in pain and restriction, and moving them towards relief and freedom - one session at a time. In most cases the massage treatment starts fairly quickly after a brief initial consultation and physical assessment. The aim is to try and establish what is causing the problems quickly, so that the client spends as much time as possible during each session being physically treated. The longer I can spend physically manipulating the tissues, the more I can learn about what is truly going on.
You are always in control
Every appointment is focused on your specific needs and goals, whether they be short, medium or long-term. For example, if you have booked a session because you are desperate for immediate relief from a stiff and sore neck, then that is what I will try and achieve for you as quickly and efficiently as your neck will allow. However if you looking to work with someone who can investigate and potentially help you resolve long term postural issues over a number of sessions, then I can do that as well. You are always in charge of how deep or long we can go.
No commitment to future sessions
I do not believe in booking clients in for a set number of sessions. Each body is different. Sometimes a client will get the results they want in one session. Other times it may take several sessions. I always discuss the treatment approach with you at the beginning of each session, and if necessary, discuss and agree the next step with you at the end.
Pain is never a prerequisite
I am NOT a "no pain, no gain" practitioner. I do not believe that pain is necessary to affect therapeutic change in the body. However strong (but tolerable) pressure is sometimes necessary to get results quickly. Therefore I will always work with the client using open communication to explain what I am doing and get their permission before using strong pressure. The client is always in control. If they prefer to go for a lighter approach, then that is the approach we shall use going forward.
Strict rules of undress and professional draping
Clients are never nude. I insist on all clients wearing underwear. Throughout each session clients are always professionally draped using towels, covering the whole body apart from the specific section I am working on. Definitely at no point during a session is a client ever exposed. With female clients, I always leave the treatment room to allow them to disrobe to their underwear, get on the massage table and cover themselves with towels. And I do not enter the room until they are on the treatment table, fully draped and ready.
